More Americans are going to be able to afford organic. Walmart, the multinational retail corporation that has taken over the United States with over 4,800 stores, recently announced that a line of organic products will be hitting about half of their stores nationwide by the end of the month.
The corporation found that 91 percent of their customers preferred organic groceries if they were affordable. And Walmart listened.
Walmart is partnering with the organic brand, Wild Oats. They are working to bring organic products on the same price level as non-organic products.
“By partnering with Walmart, Wild Oats is starting a movement that makes it easier than ever for customers to access affordable organic and natural products,” said Tom Casey, CEO of Wild Oats to the Huffington Post.
However, the brand will not extend to produce at this time, but they hope to reach that goal in the future. Although the line will be producing packaged organic foods, such as broth and salsa, they are making organic products more accessible and affordable to the millions of Americans who shop at “Wally World.” (That’s about 100 million customers per week with over 90 percent of those living within 15 minutes from a Walmart!)
While we don’t favor the low wages and employee-claimed issues at Walmart, the company is doing one good thing. They’re giving more people access to organic.
